Warmup Games:
1. Builders and Bulldozers
2. Leap Frog
3. 3 Person Weave
Builders and Bulldozers:
Portion out approximately half an end zone (20 yard by 20 yards) for this warm-up game. Have anywhere from 10-20 frisbees, half right side up, half right side down. Designate half the students to either being a “one” or a “two.” Say that the “ones” are builders and the “twos” are bulldozers. Explain that the job of the bulldozer is to make sure the discs and right-side-down aka bulldozing. The job of the builders is to make them right-side-up. Set a timer and watch them scramble! You can add variety or build-up by making them speed-walk for the first time. Then crab walk, then jog, the sprint etc. This will help to warm up their entire body. Note: this warm-up will only be interesting once.
Leap Frog:
Students should be in groups of two with one frisbee. Both students will start at the base-line, one with the frisbee and one without. The player without the frisbee sprints out approximately 10 yards and makes a sharp cut back towards the frisbee. Then the player with the disc will make a pass to the player who is cutting towards them. Once the cutter catches the frisbee, they immediately throw is back to the original passer. This pattern continues with the same player always making the long cuts until they reach the end of the field, then they switch. It is a good warm-up once the students can throw and understand how to run-to the disc (not stop and wait for the disc to come to them). The player who is waiting for the cutter can also make “fakes” until the cutter is ready for them to add more challenge to that position.
3 Person Weave:
In groups of 3 and in three separate lines, students will make passes in a 3-man weave pattern.
This will most likely be clumsy at first so give lots of space in between groups. Try to suggest for students to use both throws and choose the appropriate one for each cut. i.e. throw that is outside (person cutting towards the forehand throw- throw the forehand vise versa).
